Oh How We Touched

Our hands came close

of our own free wills

and we touched.

Oh, and how we touched!

Touched -

As if an eternity

softened and slowed

in the splendor of

an endless heart beat’s becoming

Had placed our fingertips as one!

But ah, the high-wire

of our circumstances

and the little burns and cuts

as scrapes and marks from miseries past

Aligned instead our locking grasp apart.

Yet! oh lord, How we touched!

Touched –

With fingers poignant melded

as if to hold the heavens

a forever flower suspended

in an unfurling, etched of our effort

Not, this searing slip

from sweet coupling clasp!!

To those, the crowd below,

Nay, to any who judge

the vibrant flash of our reach

and see instead but faint trail

of a humanness flung in space

and, just a movement

of a closeness passing

Falling, dropping, spinning away,

into the abyss of new sunrises -

Oh, Oh let them know

that lord

above all

We touched!

Aye, we touched:

And we touched!

We touched

of our own free wills.
